Professionals that enter the medical billing industry and current medical billers are a critical component to any physicians practice, or hospital. Many times you do not see these individuals since they do not have direct contact with the public, or many times are remotely working from home or have an outside office.

THE BILLING INDUSTRY:
The medical billing industry is rapidly changing due to great advances in technology. The most common form is individuals such as you who have opened there own medical billing practice from home. The way the medical billing works is when a patient goes in to have a medical check up, the physician has to enter data into the patient’s medical history. From there you would take over and have the claim reviewed and check for accuracy so the claim can be submitted to the insurance company for payment. Also as important as accuracy is to follow up and make sure the claim is paid and all parties are compensated, otherwise the DR.'s office will not be paid and forced to forward the bill on to the patient.

HEALTH CARE FIELD:
The health care field is growing and there is a shortage of health care professionals. One huge advantage that this file requires is very basic human touch. Health care requires passionate, dedicated people to administer care. No matter how many computers and machines are involved in the every day to day operation, without care and a genuine urge to help people health care would not be as big as it is today.

TRAINING:
There are many training paths to consider. You can look at classes that are offered at the local college and enroll there. Vocational school is another choice as well. Another way is to enroll in an on line program. One that teaches you the everything need to know from setting up a home office, medical terminology, contracts, and how to market your business to obtain your very first client. You will also learn the basics such as, customer service. With that you will also want to hone your people and organizational skills. There are many different fields you can bill for, such as chiropractors, orthodontist, and rehab facilities. These are all businesses that need good billing services.

Remember you are the key for the health care professional getting paid. At first just like anything else this can be challenging but also very rewarding work. More education will be lead to better opportunities.

COMPENSATION OVERVIEW:
Pay can range from anywhere from mid 30k on up depending on where you are, and amount of clients you have. The hardest part that most people think might be going and getting your first client. Many people find this challenging. Marketing your business does not have to be cold calling. You can try being just visiting your own DR. you can ask him/her about who they use and what they like most. Let them know you are interested in starting your own medical billing business. You can also visit some of the offices in your area, pass out fliers and network.
